Hotels in China do overbook, just like elsewhere, but when it happens to a foreign guest the fallout is worse because you may not speak the language, may not know your rights, and may have nowhere else to go late at night. If a hotel tells you it is full despite your confirmation, stay calm and assert your booking firmly.
