The best area to stay in Guangzhou for foreigners is Tianhe (Zhujiang New Town / 珠江新城) for metro access, international hotels, and business convenience, or Yuexiu and Beijing Road if you want history and walkable street life. On my first visit in 2017 I stayed in Tianhe and it made getting around this huge, spread-out city effortless.
